Nurse walking patient in hospital

Mobilizing Older adults Via a systems-based Intervention (MOVIN)®

I have no doubt that the reason I felt so strong after I went home was because they got me up to walk. This didn’t happen with other hospital admissions.

What is MOVIN?

Mobilizing Older adults Via a systems-based Intervention (MOVIN®) is an evidence-based hospital mobility program centered on improving patient ambulation by addressing barriers that prevent nursing staff from getting patients up to walk.

Why MOVIN?

Hospital-acquired-disability due to limited patient ambulation is a critical public health concern that results in negative functional, psychological and financial outcomes for patients and healthcare organizations.

MOVIN Mascot

Limited patient ambulation during hospitalization has been independently associated with loss of functional status that affects up to 60% of older adults admitted.

MOVIN is a cost efficient, evidence-based intervention shown to improve patient ambulation and functional outcomes.

Studies on mobility interventions have shown decreased hospital length of stay, decreased readmission rates, decreased falls and improved patients’ functional status and perceived quality of life.

MOVIN uses a structured, systematic approach for implementation, ensuring intervention fidelity and success.

MOVIN Mascot Right Align

Older patients spend 83-100% of their time in bed during a hospital stay.
